The Galleries

My paintings, drawings and prints are inspired by characters from myths, fairytales and folklore, and a desire to create magical landscapes in which my imagination can travel. I often choose one scene or character from the tale and focus on it, but also enjoy the challenge of working many different elements into one painting or print.

Even in my landscape paintings I am also influenced by magic and folklore, and aim to create magical landscapes that we can explore in our dreams.

My work also has elements that are autobiographical, which I am keen to pursue in future projects. I am inspired by Frida Kahlo, Leonora Carrington and the beautiful, decorative work of Gustav Klimt. I work in a variety of mediums, and enjoy using silk and acrylic paints, watercolours, even household paints, but particularly love the rich depth of colour and texture created when working in oils.

I create prints using the techniques of linocutting, etching, collographs and monoprinting. Each technique allows me to achieve a different effect – some light and airy, and others dark and atmospheric. I often use printmaking when creating my card designs.

I feel that the black and white nature of drawing in charcoal helps to portray the darker, more haunting side of the tales, which I am fascinated by, as many of the happy after tales we tell today come from much darker roots.

Many of the artworks for sale as Giclée prints or originals, or they could inspire a unique commission.  Please contact me for more details and prices.
